1. Acceptance

By installing or using the Paraphrase app, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use them. If you obtained the app from Google Play, Google Play's own terms apply to the distribution of the app alongside these Terms.

2. Licence to use the app

You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, revocable licence to install and use Paraphrase on devices you control, for personal or commercial writing. The app is free of charge, with no subscription and no in-app purchase.

You may not sell, sublicense or distribute the app as your own, remove or obscure any notices it displays, or use it to build a competing product by reverse-engineering it beyond what applicable law permits. The source code is published separately under its own licence, which governs what you may do with the code itself.

3. There is no account

Paraphrase has no account system, no login and no backend of ours. Nothing is stored on our side, so there is nothing to suspend, recover or transfer. Your settings and any API key live only on your device, and uninstalling the app removes them.

4. Third-party AI providers

Paraphrase is a client. Unless you use the on-device model or the basic offline rewriter, the actual rewriting is performed by an AI provider that you select and configure — Google Gemini, Groq, Cerebras, Mistral, OpenRouter, Hugging Face, Ollama, a server on your own machine, or any other OpenAI-compatible endpoint.

• Your use of that provider is governed by that provider's own terms of service and privacy policy, which you accept directly with them, not with us.
• Your selected text is sent to that provider so it can be rewritten. What the provider does with it — including whether it is retained or used for training — is determined by that provider. Mistral's free tier, for example, requires opting in to training on your data.
• We do not control, endorse or guarantee any provider's availability, output, pricing, quotas or security, and we are not responsible for their acts or omissions.
• Provider presets in the app — model names, base URLs and free-tier descriptions — are conveniences that can go out of date. Every field is editable so you can correct them yourself.

5. Your API keys and any costs

Any API key you enter is yours, is stored only on your device, and is transmitted only to the provider it belongs to. You are responsible for keeping it confidential and for all usage incurred under it, including any charges if you exceed a provider's free tier. We never see your key and never receive a bill on your behalf, so we cannot refund, credit or dispute one.

6. AI-generated output

Paraphrase returns what a model produced. Models can produce text that is inaccurate, misleading, biased, offensive or unsuitable for your purpose, and a rewrite can change the meaning of what you wrote in ways you did not intend.

• Review before you rely on it. Do not send, publish or act on a rewrite that matters without reading it first. This is especially important for legal, medical, financial, safety-critical or contractual text.
• Output is not professional advice of any kind.
• Ownership of the output is determined by the provider's terms and by applicable law. As between you and us, we claim no rights in your input or in the rewrites you receive.
• Every result carries a Report action, which opens your mail app with the input and output filled in. Please use it for output that is offensive or harmful. Nothing is sent unless you send it.

7. Acceptable use

You agree not to use Paraphrase to:

• break any law, or infringe anyone's intellectual property, privacy or other rights;
• process text you have no right to process;
• produce or disguise material that is unlawful, harassing, hateful, deceptive or intended to defraud, including passing off rewritten text in a context where doing so is prohibited;
• evade a provider's own usage policies, rate limits or safety measures;
• interfere with the app or this website, or attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system reached through them.

You are responsible for the text you choose to rewrite and for what you do with the result.

8. Intellectual property

The Paraphrase name, logo and the design of this website belong to GetApps. The app's source code is published in its public repository under the licence stated there. Nothing in these Terms transfers ownership of our marks to you.

9. No warranty

Paraphrase and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

In particular, we do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that it will appear in every app's text-selection toolbar (some apps use a custom toolbar that shows no third-party actions, which is outside our control), that on-device AI will be available on your phone, or that any rewrite will be accurate or suitable.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, GetApps and its developer will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages, or for any loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill or business, arising out of or relating to your use of Paraphrase — including anything arising from AI output, from a third-party provider, or from charges incurred under your own API key.

Because Paraphrase is provided free of charge, our total aggregate liability to you for all claims relating to it is limited to the amount you paid for it, which is nothing. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

11. Ending it

You may stop using Paraphrase at any time by uninstalling it, which removes everything it has stored. We may discontinue the app or any part of it, or stop distributing it, at any time. Since we hold nothing of yours, there is nothing to retrieve when that happens.

12. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms. The current version always lives at this URL with the date at the top updated. Continuing to use Paraphrase after a change means you accept the revised Terms; if you do not, uninstall the app.

13. General

If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest remains in force. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it. These Terms are the entire agreement between you and us about Paraphrase, alongside the Privacy Policy, and they do not create any agency, partnership or employment relationship. You may not assign them; we may assign them as part of a transfer of the product.
