Who this covers

Paraphrase is published by GetApps. This policy covers the Paraphrase app on Google Play and the website at paraphrase.getapps.tech. Where the two behave differently, that difference is spelled out below.

What leaves your device, and where it goes

The text you choose to rewrite. When you tap Paraphrase on a selection, that selected text is sent over HTTPS directly from your phone to the AI provider you configured, so that it can be rewritten, and the result is sent back. It is not sent anywhere else, and the app does not store it.

The provider is your choice, and each has its own privacy policy that governs what it does with the text:

• Google Gemini
• Groq
• Cerebras
• Mistral — note that Mistral's free tier requires opting in to training on your data. The app says so before you select it.
• OpenRouter
• Hugging Face
• Ollama Cloud
• Any other OpenAI-compatible endpoint you configure — governed by whoever operates it

By default, nothing leaves at all. On a device that supports it, the rewrite runs on the phone itself through Gemini Nano. No network request is made and the text reaches no one — not us, not Google, not any provider.

If you point the app at Ollama or LM Studio on your own computer, the text goes to that machine on your own network and no third party is involved. If you use the basic on-device rewriter, no network request is made at all.

What stays on your device

• Your API key, stored in the app's private storage. It is sent only to the provider it belongs to, as that provider's authentication header (Authorization: Bearer …, or x-goog-api-key for Gemini). We never receive it.
• Your settings — chosen provider, model, base URL, default rewrite style, and whether instant replace is on.

Neither is transmitted to us, and both are deleted when you uninstall the app or clear its data.

What Paraphrase never collects

No name, email address, phone number, contacts, location, device identifiers, advertising ID, installed-app list, or usage analytics. The app declares exactly one Android permission — INTERNET — and no accessibility service, overlay permission, custom keyboard or background service.

Reporting AI output

AI models can produce wrong, offensive or harmful text. Every result has a Report option, which opens your email app with the input, the output, the app version and the provider id filled in. Nothing is sent until you send it yourself, and you can edit or delete anything before sending. If you do send it, we receive whatever you chose to leave in that email, and we use it only to investigate the report.

This website

The site is served as static files from Firebase Hosting; standard web server logs apply. Your light or dark theme preference is remembered in localStorage under the key ga-theme and never leaves your browser. The demonstration rewriter on the home page runs entirely in your tab — there is no endpoint on this site that could receive what you type into it.

Like the other GetApps sites, this one may load privacy-respecting analytics to count page views and may display advertising in the reserved slots. Those third parties see the usual request metadata — IP address, user agent, referring page — and may set their own cookies subject to their own policies. They receive nothing from the app, and nothing you type into the page.

Children

Paraphrase is a general-purpose writing utility and is not directed at children.

Your rights

We hold no personal data about you to access, correct, export or delete, because none is collected. Removing everything the app has stored is a matter of uninstalling it or clearing its app data. If you have a question anyway, write to us at the address below.

Any change is published on this page with the date at the top updated. The policy is also mirrored in the app's public repository, so its history is inspectable.
